Weight Loss and Health Issues
Our bodies are made up of various types of tissues. As you can imagine, there are muscles, bones and fat tissue. Even a skinny person has fat tissue. There is no getting around the fact the fat exists. On the other hand some women are reaching dangerous level of fat. With obesity is comes negative health consequences. The relationships between high levels of fat and chronic diseases have become more evident of the last decade. We need to work towards a more healthy diet to decrease our risk of these health issues.
One of the big worries I have is diabetes. The longer and more overweight an individual is the more likely that they will contract diabetes. Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce enough, or properly respond to, insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas. Insulin is needed to turn sugar and other food into energy. In diabetes, the body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use its own insulin as well as it should, or both. This causes sugar to accumulate in the blood, often leading to various complications. The American Diabetes Association reported in 2009 that there are 23.6 million children and adults in the United States—7.8% of the population, who have diabetes. While an estimated 17.9 million in the US alone have been diagnosed with diabetes, nearly one in four (5.7 million) diabetics are unaware that they have the disease. Careful control is needed to reduce the risk of long term complications. This is theoretically achievable with combinations of diet, exercise and weight loss.
